Marina was born as second of three children in a farming family in the village of Luagde. Growing up in the shadow of Tar Valon, she often dreamed of what it would be like to be one of those mystical Aes Sedai; it seemed like it would be a lot more fulfilling than hoeing fields with her family. So when she reached her majority, she left a note for her family, and crossed the bridge to try her luck.
As it were, she could learn to channel, and was entered into the Novice book that same day. Her training was long and difficult (as it is for nearly everyone), but she took strength from the fact that she could see her family on occasion. In fact, it was because she could see her family so often that she was convinced that joining the Red Ajah was the right choice for her – she felt it important to do her part to prevent another Breaking so that her family and others would not suffer from such a horror.
Even as a student, Marina was as keen to teach as she was to learn. She delighted in learning new weaves with the One Power, and while not overly strong or facile in her weaving, was adequately skilled to explain the basics of most anything known. So when an opening monitoring and tutoring penitent Novices and Accepted at the White Tower Adjunt in Mayene came open, she was willing to step up to the job. She also offers tutoring in weaves to other Aes Sedai passing through on request.
